What was it that led to your training in homeopathy?

I suffered chronic ill health following my mother’s death, but after taking a remedy prescribed by a homeopath my symptoms disappeared overnight, and my energy levels and confidence improved massively. I used homeopathic remedies on many other occasions both for myself and my children, and was often amazed at the speed with which healing took place.

This inspired me to investigate further, and eventually to train as a homeopath.
Special interests
I have worked with young children for many years in hospitals, special needs units and primary schools, and have a particular interest in helping babies and children of all ages achieve their full potential through good health, both physical and emotional.
What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of energetic healing which is safe, gentle and yet powerful, stimulating the body’s natural energy to heal itself. The word literally means ‘same suffering’, and works on a principle of like cures like. A homeopathic remedy is a tiny amount of a substance which in a large dose produces the symptoms which the patient is experiencing.

For example, a bee sting causes heat, throbbing, and swelling.

So the remedy made from a bee sting can be used to treat conditions with those symptoms-eg (amongst other things)bee stings, some kinds of rheumatism, anaphylactic shock, allergies, ovarian cysts.

Because homeopathic remedies contain no toxins or addictive substances they are safe for babies, nursing and pregnant mothers, and the frail or elderly. They can also be used alongside allopathic medicines where needed.

What can be treated?

Homeopathy can treat a huge range of conditions, and because it is a holistic treatment it works at every level- physically and emotionally-to treat the cause, not just the symptoms. People find that their energy levels are improved during the healing process, and that they have an increased sense of well being.

I’ve seen amazing results in my practice in all kinds of areas from sports traumas to eating disorders, glue ear to ADHD. A few examples of what may be treated are listed below, but almost any condition can benefit from homeopathic treatment.

Acute illness ; vomiting and diarrhoea, flu, measles, coughs

Injury; sprains and strains, broken bones, burns, bruising and cuts, nosebleeds, brain damage

Post-operative; infection, scarring, swelling, slow healing

Pregnancy & post natal; morning sickness, backache, slow labour, delayed labour, breast feeding, mastitis

Hormonal; period pains, PMT, menopausal problems

Babies; colic, teething, tantrums, problems after vaccination,

Nappy rash, growth/development delay

Childhood and adolescent social, emotional and learning difficulties; Dyslexia, ADHD, shyness, bullying, epilepsy, grief after family break-up, anxiety, eating disorders, developmental delay, stuttering, fear

Emotional problems ; Post traumatic stress, business stress, anger, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, grief, shock

Addictions

Chronic conditions; rheumatism, sciatica, eczema, asthma, hay fever, heart conditions, cystitis, liver/kidney disease, insomnia, blood pressure, thyroid, migraine, enlarged prostate, back pain
What will happen when I come for treatment?

Because homeopathy treats holistically, looking at the whole person not just t he ailment, your first consultation will be quite a long and detailed one. At this stage I am building up a picture of you, your symptoms, your personality, and of significant events in your life which may have affected your health.

When we have completed this stage you will be given one or more remedies and simple instructions about how and when to take them.

What can I expect when I take the remedy?

Some people experience almost immediate improvement in their symptoms along with a sense of emotional well being. For others the improvement may be more gradual, with some people experiencing a slight worsening of symptoms before they improve. Eg a fever may rise before it comes down, a rash may emerge more fully before it goes, you may have discharges such as sweating, increased mucous, etc, as your body uses the energy of the remedy to rid itself of toxins.

If your problem is of an emotional nature, you may have vivid dreams, or experience an emotional discharge such as crying.

If you have any anxiety or questions about the process I’m happy to talk to you.

    Self Help

Homeopathy is a very empowering form of healing, and you may want to use remedies yourself at home. They are perfectly safe for anyone to use for first aid and in emergencies, although you should always seek professional help where there is a more serious or life threatening situation.

I have a stock of remedy kits consisting of a small box with 42 remedies to cover most eventualities when travelling or at home, which are for sale at below the usual retail price. They come with a small prescribing guide.

If you want to look further into homeopathy, here are some useful ‘home prescribers’ which are readily available in bookshops and libraries;

‘The Family Guide to Homeopathy’ by Dr Andrew Lockie (pub. Hamish Hamilton)

‘The Complete Homeopathy Handbook’ by Miranda Castro (Pan)
